Wacker Neuson featured battery-electric equipment in its booth at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2023 this past March, including the 1.7-ton EZ17e electric compact excavator. While it was shown for the first time in North America, this is not a concept machine – it is in the hands of customers globally and will be made available to North American customers in late 2023 or early 2024. In the video clip, Jay Quatro, commercial product manager, shares some of the EZ17e’s unique capabilities and benefits.

Such capabilities include the same performance as the company’s conventional diesel model but with zero emissions and reduced maintenance. The EZ17e is operated via a joystick, jog dial and keypad with all the needed operating information shown in a 7-in. display. The minimal tailswing model has a maximum digging depth of 97.7 in., a breakout force of 4608 lbs. and has the ability to run auxiliary attachments such as hydraulic breakers.

Power is provided by a maintenance-free lithium-ion battery that offers all-day runtime, the company stated, and can be recharged in five to six hours using a common 240-volt, single-phase outlet. The EZ17e can also be operated tethered to a power source, if needed.
