Radial Piston Range Expanded

02 May 2019

Bosch Rexroth has expanded its range of radial piston motors with the introduction of the MCR-S. Targeted toward chain drive applications in mobile equipment, the new motor offers an optimized installation design and delivers increased power density along with enhanced starting efficiency and smooth operation, the company said.

To deliver a more compact solution, Bosch Rexroth has repositioned the parking brake to the body of the motor, integrated the two-speed shifting spool within the motor distributor and optimized the main port locations. The result is a motor that Bosch Rexroth said is up to 33% shorter, 41% lighter and fully optimized for ease of installation and to deliver enhanced efficiency without compromising durability.

Complementing its compact design is the new Rexroth MCR4 frame size – which is specifically developed for motor displacements between 325 cc and 470 cc – and a nine-piston rotary group that the company said contributes to a significantly increased torque density and helps to limit the maximum vehicle travel speed.

“As mobile construction machines continue to become increasingly complex and sophisticated, we’ve seen far greater demands for space within the engine compartment, making the motor length a critical design factor,” says Gary Whitelaw, MCR Director of Sales at Bosch Rexroth. “To that end, our new MCR-S has been specifically engineered to answer these demands – and do so in a way, which doesn’t simply answer the need for more space, but also drives greater levels of efficiency throughout its lifetime.

“Of course, in the harsh environments in which these machines operate, durability remains a key focus. That’s why, with the Rexroth MCR-S, we’ve incorporated an enhanced rotary group design to deliver a greater low speed capability. In practice, that means increased starting efficiency, delivering high torque even at zero RPM as well as being optimized to handle high temperature applications.”
