MTU Stage 5 Engines For Claas Combines, Tractors
23 January 2017
Rolls-Royce and Claas have signed a project agreement for the supply of MTU Series 1000 to 1500 engines compliant with EU Stage 5 emissions regulations for use in combine harvesters, forage-harvesters and four-wheel drive high-horsepower tractors from 2019.
Claas will use new MTU Series 1000 to 1500 engines to its Lexion and Tucano combine harvesters, Jaguar forage harvester and its Xerion tractors (right). According to the agreement, from 2019 on, a total of 4000 to 5000 engines a year will be sold to Claas across all MTU series engines and emissions levels.
“With an eye, among other things, to the EU Stage 5 emissions directive, we have decided in favor of these tried-and-trusted engines from MTU to power a large proportion of our vehicles,” said Bernd Kleffmann, head of Systems Engineering Development at Claas Selbstfahrende Erntemaschinen GmbH. “We already have over 10 field trial vehicles fitted with EU Stage 5 MTU engines and are very satisfied with them.”
“We are delighted at winning one of the most renowned agricultural machinery manufacturers for the EU Stage 5 engines we’ve introduced,” said Bernd Krüper, vice president Industrial Business including Construction & Agriculture at MTU. “This is a continuation of our long-standing success story with Claas.”
