London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) has reported that drivers switching to its TX model taxi has prevented an estimated 200,000 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

Launched in 2018, the TX is the latest version of the LEVC black cab. The model uses the eCity electric-petrol parallel hybrid powertrain. This combines an 81 hp (60 kW) three-cylinder 1.5-litre engine which recharges the battery pack that delivers power to the 148 bhp motor.

A plug-in facility can also be used to recharge the 36.4 kWh li-ion battery pack. The vehicle can be fitted with Chademo and Type 2/CCS charging points. The maximum DC rapid charge rate is 50 kW.

Pure electric (battery only) range is reported to be 78 miles. Total range with the petrol engine recharging the batteries is 333 miles.

In London, UK, the TX is now the most popular black cab version, replacing the TX4. In total, 7,500 TX taxis are in service across the capital. In total, LEVC has produced more than 10,000 units of the TX which are in use across more than 20 countries.

LEVC vehicles are assembled in Coventry, UK. The plant was constructed with £500m of investment from owner Geely Holding Group.
