Hilti becomes C02 neutral

Tool specialist Hilti Group has announced that it has achieved C02 neutrality in its own operations.

The Liechtenstein-based company said the achievement comes after it initiated a four-step approach to eliminate CO2 emissions.

The approach follows the principles “reduce, replace, produce and offset” and is part of a package of comprehensive measures to meet the criteria set by the Science Based Targets initiative.

Since 2019 the company has reduced its C02 emissions by 60%, replacing fossil-based energy sources with more sustainable alternatives in the process.

It has also increased the number of electric drive and full hybrid vehicles in its global vehicle fleet to about half by the end of 2023.

Meanwhile, it has utilised 100% green energy on its global operations since 2020 through the purchase of green electricity certificates in line with  “EKOenergy” and “Green-e” standards or generated by its own photovoltaic systems.

Hilti said it will expand its worldwide photovoltaic generation to more than 9,000 megawatt hours.

Jahangir Doongaji, CEO, Hilti, said, “Reaching CO2 neutrality within our own operations is the first tangible milestone on our journey towards net zero emissions. Despite this important achievement, we also recognise the importance of addressing emissions along the entire value chain. Our commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative will support our customers’ sustainability ambitions and contribute to combating climate change.”
