Five new Steiger truck mounts will soon be on their way to the Cologne, Germany, following a recent order made by the city’s local authority.

The City of Cologne’s Office for Landscape Management and Green Spaces has purchased five TBR 230 S7 Hybrid machines, expanding a working fleet that already includes three of manufacturer Ruthmann’s TBR 230 HV 5 Hybrid models.

The city’s new TBR-Series Steiger’s will comprise a 7.5-tonne Mercedes Benz chassis and offer a maximum working height of 23 metres, with a horizontal outreach of 16.4m.

Designed for use in inner city areas for maintenance applications in low-emissions zones, the TBR 230 S7 truch mounts feature large, double-sided accessible boxes, a high payload and “plenty of storage space for the tools and work materials required during use”.

According to Ruthmann, the City of Cologne invested in the units as part of its Net Zero strategy.

“In this way, the City of Cologne continues to consistently implement its plan to achieve a climateneutral Cologne by 2035,” said Ruthmann. “The Parks Department has currently already converted 40 % of its hand-held equipment and around 20 % of its vehicles to alternative energies, thus contributing to savings.

“The Steiger with Rutghmann hybrid technology save an average of around 3,000 litres of diesel fuel per vehicle and year, as the equipment can be operated electrically via the lithium battery during operations.”

Manfred Kaune, head of Landscape Management and Green Spaces at City of Cologne, said, “In addition to the elimination of pollutant emissions, the battery-powered devices bring considerable advantages, especially for green maintenance in Cologne‘s cemeteries, as citizens as well as employees can be spared the disturbing noise and exhaust fumes of combustion engines.“

While Ruthmann has not indicated when the truck mounts will be delivered, it has revealed that they will join another three Steiger T330 Hybrid and three T330 HV12 Hybrid models, which were ordered back in May of this year.
