The investment will expand the industrial manufacturing plant’s assembly line for material handling equipment. It comprises the construction of a new assembly hall with cranes, and the installation of a new powder coating line, contemporary office space and additional employee facilities.

Upgrades to the site, which Terex acquired in 2015 when it purchased its metal supplier company JMF, are expected cost around £9.5 million (US$11.5 million) and will create 60 permanent jobs.

The company has already submitted a planning application for the expansion. It hopes to start works at the site in 2023 and expects the construction phase to last 12 to 18 months and employ around 100 construction workers.

Jonathan Hanna, Terex’s director of fabrications, crushing and screening, said: “The team here have been performing to the highest standard and this investment is further evidence that Terex is willing to improve and build upon our success to date.

“This upgrade will give us a world class operation where we can create a safe, productive environment and a great place to work. With this multi-million [pound] local investment on the site we hope to create further 60 new jobs here in Ballymoney and the surrounding area.”

According to Terex, the new investment is further evidence of the fabrication site’s success.

Earlier this year the equipment manufacturer, which also has sites in the Northern Ireland towns of Omagh, Dungannon and Campsie, invested millions in new laser cutting equipment and robot welding cells at Ballymoney.
