Ricardo announced it has signed an agreement with Chinese diesel engine maker Anhui Quanchai Engine Co., Ltd. (Quanchai) to support the development of a new generation common rail diesel engine platform for commercial applications.

Under the terms of the agreement, U.K.-headquartered research and development and specialist manufacturer will help Quanchai — which is based in Quanjiao,  Anhui province — in the design, development and calibration of a new diesel engine family of sizes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 L for on- and off-highway applications.

The engines will be developed to the latest applicable China 6 Heavy Duty and China Stage 4 Off-Highway regulations and will employ the Ricardo patented low-soot Twin Vortex Combustion System.
