News From Middle East Electricity

03 February 2016

The 41st Middle East Electricity Exhibition opened in Dubai, and a number of companies have used the show to highlight their newest power generation products.

Diesel engine manufacturer FPT Industrial announced the addition of two new power nodes to its G-drive engine line. The new Cursor 16 is on the upper end of the range, with up to 600 kVA output, while the three-cylinder S8000 fills in the lower end with a 29 to 33 kVA output range.

While the Cursor 16 G-drive engine brings FPT’s offering for gen-sets up to 600 kVA, it can be packaged in a 400 kVA frame, the company said. It will be available worldwide — with the exception of the U.S. and Canada — and can be changed from 50 and 60 Hz frequency through a simple mechanical switch.

The 16 L engine was developed especially for off-road applications and is not derived from an on-highway product, the company said. It incorporates a high-resistance cylinder head constructed of compact graphite iron (CGI), along with a new cooling system with high-performance fan. It also uses a common rail fuel injection system designed to deliver up to 2200 bar injection pressure, as well as a single-stage ball-bearing turbocharger.

FPT said the Cursor 16’s footprint is 32% more compact than typical engines of the same displacement and fuel economy is 11% improved over similar displacements, the company said.

The S8000 G-drive is available outside of the NAFTA region and for emergency power applications only for the EU. It has a prime power outputs of 29 and 33 kW for 50 and 60 Hz gen-sets, respectively.

Marelli Motori launched its new MXB generator range. The new generators are engineered to provide up to a 22% reduction in length and offer easy coupling and service accessibility, the company said.

Particular attention has been paid to the flexibility of the new range, Marelli Motori said. Customers are able to select options —  permanent magnet generators, inlet and outlet filters, heaters and PT100 bearing temperature monitoring systems — and assemble them together themselves. This approach, the company said, also simplifies retrofitting of existing installations.

SDMO introduced its new K66 industrial gen-set, which is part of the company’s Adriatic product range, which the company said will be further expanded later in the year. The K66 gen-sets are powered by Kohler’s KDI diesel engines, delivering 22 to 66 kVA output.

SDMO also presented a new lighting mast with LED technology, the RL4500-5. The 3 x 450W LED lamps utilized in the lighting mast generate the equivalent of 4500 W, with a fuel saving of up to 37% thanks to this technology, said SDMO.
