More JLTV Orders For Oshkosh Defense

23 March 2016

Oshkosh Defense, LLC, has announced that the U.S. Army has placed an order for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program including 657 vehicles, 2977 installed kits and related support. The order, which will serve both the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, is valued at more than $243 million.

This is the second order Oshkosh has received as part of its huge JLTV contract.  The military previously ordered 201 vehicles as part of the initial base contract.

The JLTV production contract calls for Oshkosh to deliver a total of nearly 17,000 vehicles, as well as kits and services over an eight-year period with first vehicle delivery in October 2016. The vehicles, trailers and installed kits for this order will be delivered by first quarter FY18.

The Oshkosh JLTV  is powered by a Banks model 866T, 6.6 liter turbocharged diesel engine, based on GM Duramax architecture.  The JLTV is 33% smaller and 33% lighter than the Oshkosh MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) and, Oshkosh said, has off-road speeds 70 percent faster than today’s Oshkosh M-ATV.

Oshkosh Corp. also announced a separate contract, valued at $433.3 million, to rebuild hundreds of tactical trucks.  The work for the U.S. Army will take place in Oshkosh between now and Dec. 1, 2024 and will include refurbishing some of the Army’s biggest armored trucks used in the war in Afghanistan.  Some of the trucks that saw action in Iraq and Afghanistan were more than 20 years old.
