Hatz Certified For EU Stage 5

06 February 2019

Hatz announced EU Stage 5 certification obtained from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) for its lineup of air- and liquid-cooled engines for mobile machines. This includes air-cooled engines of the B-, D-, G-, L- and M-series with a power output of less than 19 kW and the new Hatz H-series liquid-cooled engines – namely the three-cylinder 3H50TICD and four-cylinder 4H50TICD engines from 19 to 55 kW.

The air-cooled engines were certified for EPA Tier 4 final emission stage and have now also been certified for EU Stage 5 regulations without any technical modifications or additional exhaust gas aftertreatment, said the company.

The Hatz H-series engines, on the other hand, are a new development based on the downsizing principle. They use selected materials, turbochargers and a Bosch common rail system for the off-highway version. For Stage 5 these engines are also equipped with a maintenance-friendly, separable combination of diesel oxidation catalytic converter and diesel particulate filter (DOC/DPF).

The manufacturer also adopts optiHEAT (optimised Hatz Exhaust Aftertreatment Technology) that is an adaptation of the diesel particulate filter in terms of size and load profiles for the regeneration strategy. Hatz also worked on combustion with its iHACS (intelligent Hatz Advanced Combustion Strategy), that ensures extremely low soot input from combustion as well as very low oil consumption and significantly reduced ash input into the filter.

Hatz also pointed out that it has achieved another industry-wide innovation with diesel particle filter regeneration: for the first time, an automatic cylinder deactivation during standstill regeneration was integrated in industrial diesel engines.
