Concentric to supply steering pumps for e-trucks

02 June 2021

Concentric AB announced it will supply its electrohydraulic steering pump (EHS) system to a North American OEM for use on a new range of medium-duty battery electric trucks. The OEM is developing medium- and heavy-duty electric trucks used in the last mile and return to base segments, Concentric said, and production of EHS systems will start this year for the medium-duty trucks.

Concentric EHS Concentric will supply its EHS electrohydraulic steering pump systems for new battery electric vehicles that will be used in last-mile delivery service.

Sales revenues from this new contract are estimated to be worth SEK 185 million ($21.77 million) over the next five years, the company said.

Concentric said the EHS system has been used globally in a range of on-road and off-road commercial vehicles. The EHS offers system power savings through its variable pressure and speed control capability with the option of low-noise pump technology and direct electronic control features through CAN Bus communications. It also offers on-demand steering and variable speed capability, down to a low of 350 rpm in typical steering cycle mode, the company said. Depending on the application, the EHS unit can be rated up to 276 bar (4000 psi), with flows from 12 to 80 l/min (3.17 to 21 gpm) and peak output from 1.5 to 7 kW (2 to 9.4 hp).

“Electrification of the commercial vehicle market presents exciting long-term opportunities as the EHS system can be used on both hybrid and fully electric platforms, battery electric or fuel cell, reducing energy consumption by utilizing “power on demand” technology,” said David Woolley, CEO and president of Concentric AB. “These new orders are further examples of how we are successfully broadening our e-pump product offering to new applications in the medium- and heavy-duty truck market becoming the supplier of choice.”
