Cat Brings 64 Machines To Bauma

09 April 2019

Caterpillar Inc. said it showed more equipment, technology and services than ever before at Bauma 2019.

“Cat construction machines are available with more automation, integrated technology and digital solutions that enable customers to focus on their most important task: running their businesses,” said Caterpillar Construction Industries Group President Ramin Younessi. “We are working to significantly decrease owning and operating costs while increasing power density and the use of alternative fuels, maximizing the efficiency of power systems, and expanding electrification in our product lines. We want to ensure our customers are successful with Caterpillar solutions.”

The company said the new technologies build upon decades-long experience in automation, technological development and electrification.

In total, Caterpillar showed 64 machines, 20 of them new introductions, a large selection of work tools and dealer-delivered support services. Caterpillar and German dealer Zeppelin Cat have approximately 13,000 sq.m of exhibit space at the show.

In one corner of the company’s indoor exhibit area sat the company’s completely redesigned R1700 underground mining loader. It has a payload of 15 tonnes (16.5 tons), 20% more than its predecessor carries, yet it maintains the dimensions of the R1700G, said the company.

Engineers improved fuel economy with the on-demand adjustment of the cooling fan and the hydraulic system, as well as with the Cat C13 diesel engine rated 269 kW (361 hp) in standard configuration and 257 kW (345 hp) in EU Stage 5 compliant form.

The engine is available in three different emissions configurations to allow tailoring the R1700 to the ventilation needs of the mine.

Also on the exhibit were:

  • Next Generation Cat machines offering functions such as Grade, Payload, Detect and Command to maximize production, reduce costs and improve safety.
  • A dozer that Caterpillar said is the world’s first high-drive electric drive machine, the D6 XE; offering up to 35% better fuel efficiency than its D6T predecessor.
  • A concept 906 zero-emission compact wheel loader, powered by a lithium-ion battery with a fully electric drivetrain.
  • The 988K XE, Caterpillar’s first diesel/electric-drive wheel loader
