ALH speaker highlight: JLG’s Rob Messina

Attendees at the ALH Conference will be privy to hearing the latest equipment electrification information and trends when Rob Messina, Senior vice president, product development and product management – JLG, takes the stage on Sept. 14 in Chicago.

In his presentation, “Advances in electrification: The latest in battery technologies,” Messina will address how global mega trends are impacting market demand for advances in electrification.

“In this discussion, we will review the current state of the access industry and its adoption of electrification in the future,” Messina says. “In addition, we will review how those demands translate into more efficient machine design, battery selection and associated ecosystem opportunities.”

Messina, who spoke at the 2017 ALH Conference about future technologies within the access industry, has since been a part of numerous developments from the world’s largest access equipment manufacturer.

In early February, JLG’s parent company Oshkosh Corporation invested $25 million into Microvast, a developer of lithium-ion battery technology for commercial and specialty electric vehicles.

The announcement was made just over a year after JLG formally debuted its hydraulics-free, all-electric DaVinci AE1932 scissor lift – which was an industry first.

The DaVinci, which is now available to the market, is powered by a single 24-volt lithium-ion battery that can be fully charged in 3.5 hours. If the battery runs out of juice and more power is needed, it can be charged for 5 minutes to get 100 feet of drive and enough torque for loading. JLG says the battery has a 10-year lifespan and requires no maintenance.

JLG President Frank Nerenhausen recently explained how Oshkosh’s investment in Microvast illustrates the company’s commitment to a more-electric future, noting JLG is anticipating an increase in demand for electrified access equipment around the world.

Adding to that, Jennifer Stiansen, director of marketing for JLG, told ALH the company firmly believes the market will continue to see a monumental shift toward electrified products.

“We also believe that more advanced solutions are on the horizon,” she said. “Electrifying parts of machines is nothing new — but utilizing all-electric components [for the DiVinci scissor lift] with a lithium-ion battery is new. And, it is a game changer for the industry.”

With so much happening at JLG in regard to greener and more electric equipment, Messina’s presentation is sure to give attendees a thorough look into what’s to come – and what’s already in place.

Organized by Access, Lift & Handlers and its publisher, KHL Group, the day-long ALH Conference will be the industry’s first in-person gathering since the start of the global pandemic. To register or learn more, click here.
