Display Controller Doubles as Control Computer
01 March 2019
Liebherr presents a new generation display controller, the DC5 family: a customizable controller with high-resolution display and touchscreen, available in three sizes – 17.8, 22.9 and 30.5 cm.
The DC5 family is based on a high-capacity i.MX6 processor and Linus/Yocto software. With their rating up to IP6K5, these controllers are meant for mobile machinery use and can cope with the very demanding operating conditions of heavy-duty off-highway applications within a wide temperature window from -30 to 70 °C.
The DC5 family is not just a display for operational parameters and cameras, but is qualified as visibility aid according to DIN EN ISO 16001:2016. It can also be used as a control computer and its integrated Projected Capacitive (PCAP) touchscreen makes it a programmable input device.
The three size variants in the family feature high-resolution screens up to 1280×800 pixel and several different interfaces including Ethernet, CAN and Bluetooth. A built-in speaker is also available for audio signals such as beeps.
OEMs choosing the DC5 controller family can count on application-specific customizations. Liebherr said that customers can configure several parameters, as for example design, display size and quality, computing power, and interfaces. As an option more functionalities can be integrated in the display controller, among which satellite navigation and mobile communication.
The display is built with Optical Bonding technology, that combines display, touch sensor and protective glass into a robust unit. It prevents moisture, improves the touch functionality, and is dust proof. It is also highly legible in strong sunlight.
