BKT starts tire production at expanded Bhuj plant
01 April 2022
BKT has started radial tire production at its newly-expanded plant in Bhuj, India. The plant is located in Gujarat state, near the Pakistan border. It is about 60 km from the port of Mundra, on the Arabian Sea.
After ground breaking in May 2021, the €95 million ($105 million, £80 million) expansion has been completed in less than a year. It is expected to reach full manufacturing capacity of 50,000 tonnes in six months.
The project was launched to respond to growing global demand for agricultural tires.
“The worldwide demand for agricultural tires is on the upswing,” said Arvind Poddar, BKT chairman and MD. “There is a strong indication that growth in this sector is here to stay and in keeping with the company vision of growth and quality, the present expansion would meet the expectations from our loyal customers.
“We truly feel that it is time to act and put our best foot forward to meet our commitment to the rising needs of our customers. This expansion is our answer to the universal demand.”
Tires from the Bhuj plant will be offered in the India market and in 160 countries worldwide.
