New DEF Gauges From Beede

Beede Instruments has released two versions of a DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) gauge for the on- and off-highway markets. The new gauge measures the DEF level based on SAE J1939 PGN 65110 (SPN1761) information for the SCR (selective catalytic reduction) Reagent Tank 1.

Beede has made the gauge available in two versions. One version is a 2 in. slave gauge that connects to Beede’s CAN-base NexSysLink system. It has a red flashing LED that illuminates when 12.5% of the DEF remains in the tank. It becomes a solid red LED when only 2.5% urea remains in the DEF tank, warning the operator that refueling is necessary. The NexSysLink system is Beede’s next generation instrumentation system, which combines analog and digital display technologies.

Beede’s second version of the DEF gauge is a stand-alone 2 in. gauge. It doesn’t require a master node instrument and it connects directly to the J1939 bus network. A flashing amber LED is used to signify when only 12.5% DEF remains in the tank. A solid red LED indicates that only 2.5% remains. Other features of the DEF gauges include an environmentally sealed six-pin Deutsch connector. A backlit translucent multi-colored dial, stepper motor technology, flat or domed lens and a lit pointer are also offered.
