In-Cylinder Pressure Sensor

Kavlico, a business unit of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST), has developed an in-cylinder pressure sensor designed to optimize engine combustion. Kavlico said the sensor assists with the timing and delivery of the fuel by providing accurate pressure information to the engine control unit to control fuel injection pulses. This enhances combustion, control, and cylinder pressure management while reducing gaseous and particulate emissions all the while improving fuel consumption, the company said.

The sensor utilizes a thin film titanium oxynitride sense element in an all-welded, hermetically sealed, stainless steel housing. The package design is applicable for hostile environments, like an engine cylinder. Pressure ranges are available from 0-200 through 0-300 Bar. The sensor operates on 5 Vdc and provides a linear amplified analog output of 0.5 to 4.5 Vdc proportional to pressure as standard with other custom output options. Kavlico said the sensor is impervious to electromagnetic interference (EMI).

The sensor has a small probe OD of 8mm and the probe can be specified up to 100mm in length. The sense element is located at the tip of the sensor to ensure accurate and fast output response time.
