Diesel Soot Sensor

GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies, a business unit of GE, has introduced a diesel particulate filter (DPF) soot sensor. GE said the sensor is the first in a new family of sensors intended to improve the efficiency of internal combustion engines and aftertreatment systems, enabling increased emissions reduction.

The sensor is designed to be used in conjunction with a DPF to meet PM regulations by measuring the soot loading within a DPF, providing real-time data to the user. By using radio frequency technology, the sensor is able to measure soot measurement very accurately, GE said, which helps to extend the time between regeneration of the DPF. This is designed to reduce maintenance and fuel use and increase the overall life of the filter. Thermal load is also decreased, GE Sensing said, in addition to extending DPF service intervals and reducing warranty costs.
