Robot Mower Reaches Sales Milestone

August 26, 2009

Husqvarna announced that as of this month, it has sold 100,000 of its Automower robotic lawn mowers. The company began initial sales of the fully automatic, electrically driven mower system in 1995.

“Reaching the level of 100,000 Husqvarna Automower units sold is a milestone for innovative gardening equipment and truly user-friendly domestic robots,” said Magnus Yngen, president and CEO of Husqvarna Group.

The Automower is now sold in 30 countries, with sales targeted mainly at homeowners and hotels. The programmable mower is battery driven and recharges itself through solar cell panels or an electrical powered charging station. With an almost invisible wire staked into the ground, the mower stays within a pre-determined area and can mow lawns as large as 64,000 sq. ft.

The Automower was detailed in a story in the December 2008 issue of Diesel Progress North American Edition.
