Deutz To Introduce Two New Diesels At Bauma

TCD 2.9 and TCD 3.6 diesels to debut, new nomenclature, and a glimpse of final Tier 4

Deutz is making a significant and aggressive series of product introductions at Bauma, including two brand new engine lines, the TCD 2.9 and the TCD 3.6 diesels. Along with the two new engine lines, Deutz will also show its complete Tier 4 interim/Stage 3b compliant portfolio—five engine families in total.

Interestingly, Deutz is also using Bauma to show some of its Tier 4 final strategies. “We are really early in announcing our strategy to our customers,” said Georg Diderich, senior vice president corporate management . “Our decisions were made very early, our strategies were set very early, and we think that’s a real competitive advantage.”

The Deutz Tier 4 product line starts with the TCD 2.9 range, a completely new diesel line developed specifically for the construction and agricultural industry, as well as other off-highway uses. The TCD 2.9 L4 engines are liquid-cooled, four-cylinder inline diesels, which will be introduced with outputs from 33 to 74.9 hp at 2600 rpm. Naturally-aspirated, turbocharged and charge-air-cooled configurations will be available.

The new TCD 2.9 engines will have a high pressure (23,000 psi) common rail fuel system, with a Bosch high pressure fuel pump and EMR 4 electronic control unit (ECU), as well as wastegate turbochargers on those configurations.

At 1600 rpm, the naturally-aspirated model TCD 2.9 has a maximum torque of 108 lb.ft., while the turbocharged and charge-air-cooled versions have a maximum torque of 186 lb.ft. at the same speed. The TCD 2.9 engines have a bore and stroke of 92 mm by 110 mm, and weigh 463 lbs. to 496 lbs. depending on the configuration.

Also new is the Deutz TCD 3.6 four-cylinder, 3.6 L engine family. Covering outputs from 67 to 114 hp at 2600 rpm, the 3.6L four-cylinder engines have a 98 mm by 120 mm bore and stroke, and develop the maximum torque of 243 lb.ft. or 298 lb.ft. at 1400 to 1600 rpm, depending on the configuration.

The liquid-cooled TCD 3.6 diesels will be available in turbocharged and turbocharged/charge-air-cooled configurations. Featuring a high pressure common rail fuel system, this two-valve-per-cylinder design has a closed circuit crankcase breather system, and a belt-driven water cooling pump with a thermostat and integrated bypass system. The new Deutz model TCD 3.6 weighs 595 lbs.

To differentiate their new Tier 4 product line, Deutz is also introducing new engine designations. The new nomenclature consists of the displacement of the engine, followed by number of cylinders and the configuration and will be applied to all new engines starting from Tier 4i introductions from 2011 onwards. Deutz said that all existing serial products will keep their previous designations
