Editor’s note: For all of the gains in precision, controllability and efficiency made over the last decade, mobile hydraulics continues to be challenged by advances in mechanical and electrical power transmission systems. As part of its mission to foster the development of new fluid power technologies, the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP) is supporting significant new research into a wide range of hydraulic disciplines. In this new continuing series, Diesel Progress North American Edition will highlight some of the projects and research programs administered by the CCEFP, which provide an interesting — and encouraging — look at the future of hydraulics.
