CTS Smart Actuators
CTS has developed a new family of smart, brushless dc (BLDC) motor-based actuators (Series 645, 646 and 647). This in response to demanding emission regulations that are driving the need for improved control systems that reduce emissions, increase fuel economy and enhance engine performance.
Many engine and control system OEMs are choosing to meet these new requirements through the use of advanced turbochargers, active manifolds and/or high performance Exhaust Gas Recirculation systems. These advanced engine control systems benefit from the advantages offered by CTS’ new smart actuators, a critical component used to position control valves and vary turbocharger geometry.
CTS smart actuators utilize advanced microprocessing and electronics to incorporate signal level control, power management, operational logic and diagnostics within the actuator unit, thereby reducing system costs. Self-calibration, soft stop algorithms and non-contacting positional feedback features are included to achieve smooth and accurate actuating operation.
CTS actuators have been designed to cover peak torque ranges from 1 to 4 Nm (0.74 to 2.95 lb.ft.) and operate in environmental conditions from -40°C to 140°C (up to 200°C with liquid cooling). These specifications meet a wide range of applications for medium-to-heavy duty diesel engines used in trucks, agricultural and construction equipment.
