@Agritechnica: MTU To Showcase Ag Engines

Posted on September 11, 2013

MTU announced that it will showcase its Series 1000 to 1600 diesel engines for agricultural applications designed to meet EU Stage 4 and EPA Tier 4 final emissions regulations. From 2014, Series 1000 to 1600 diesels will be available for agricultural and forestry applications in a power range of 100 to 730 kW (134 to 978 hp).

MTU´s new Series 1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 engines between 100 and 460 kW (134 to 617 hp) are based on Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle engines that MTU has optimized for off-highway applications. Compliance with EU Stage 4 and EPA Tier 4 final emissions regulations is achieved with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology. With the Series 1000 four- and six-cylinder inline engines and the six-cylinder inline units available in Series 1100, 1300 and 1500, MTU is offering a robust and compact system with standardized mechanical and electronic interfaces that can be integrated in vehicles with minimum adaptation, the company said. According to MTU, these solutions offer up to 20% longer service life and up to 5% lower fuel consumption in comparison with their predecessors, while delivering a higher low end torque together with fast and simple maintenance.

Above 560 kW, Series 1600 engines will extend the program to 730 kW (978 hp) from mid-2014 for agricultural vehicles and equipment requiring high power outputs. Series 1600 engines meet US EPA Tier 4 final specifications scheduled for 2015 using high-pressure common rail injection, two-stage turbocharging and cooled exhaust gas recirculation technology. For markets with less demanding emissions regulations, MTU continues to offer its Series 900, 460 and 500 units in the 75 to 480 kW power range.
