Hino, Scania In Global Truck Sales Alliance
Posted on September 26, 2006
Press reports in Japan say that Hino Motors Ltd. will start a global sales alliance with Swedish rival Scania Inc. in an effort to expand sales channels in Asia, South America and other emerging markets. The first step will find Scania selling 4-ton-class midrange Hino trucks in South Korea through its local dealership network beginning next April. Scania will also handle maintenance, repairs and parts.
The report says the two companies intend to develop joint supply and sales networks worldwide, with Hino handling Thailand, Indonesia and other Asian markets and Scania handling Europe and all of South America. The partnership between the two companies began in 2002, initially on the engineering side. Heretofore, the alliance was confined to Japan, where Hino has been handling sales of Scania trucks since 2003.
