Cat Expanding Forestry Operations In Georgia

Posted on September 14, 2005

Caterpillar Inc. is planning a major expansion in LaGrange, Ga. The company announced that it will consolidate and expand its manufacturing and support operations for two forest product lines at the LaGrange site.

Caterpillar opened a dedicated forestry machine assembly facility in LaGrange in 1997 and currently produces three models of wheeled skidders, employing approximately 60 people. The number of employees is expected to double over the next year with the expansion and consolidation of operations. These plans include the addition of wheeled skidder fabrication work, and assembly and fabrication operations for the company's line of tracked feller bunchers. That product is currently based in Aurora, Ill.

Cat also said that Caterpillar Logistics Services will open a new facility in LaGrange to provide manufacturing logistics support for the expanded operations, supplying parts and material for the wheeled skidder and feller buncher assembly.
