@GIE-Expo: New Engines Coming From Kohler

Posted on October 7, 2013

Kohler will launch several new engines at the upcoming GIE-Expo in Louisville, including a pair of gasoline V-twins and a redesigned diesel targeting vibratory plate compactors.

The new Kohler 7000 Series is an air-cooled, 90° V-twin engine line designed for consumer applications. Available in 20, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26 hp configurations, the overhead valve engines incorporate cast iron cylinder bores, nitrite-coated exhaust valves, full pressure lubrication and modulated cooling fans engineered for high cooling efficiency and low noise, the company said. In addition, the 25 and 26 hp versions are equipped with Kohler’s Smart Spark digital ignition system. Displacement for the 20 to 25 hp engines is 725 cc on a bore and stroke of 83 x 67 mm, while the 26 hp engine has bore and stroke dimensions of 83 x 69 mm for a total displacement of 747 cc.

The new Kohler Confidant V-twins are designed for entry-level commercial or high-end consumer applications such as tractors and zero-turn radius mowers and wide-area walk-behind mowers, the company said.  The OHV engines incorporate heavy-duty cyclonic air cleaners, nitrite-coated exhaust valves, larger cooling fins on the crankcase and cylinder heads, fire ring steel head gaskets, and exhaust valve seats made of hard cast iron material. The Confidant engines are available in two displacements with 19 and 21 hp models at 725 cc on bore and stroke dimensions of 83 x 67 mm, while the 23 and 25 hp models carrying displacements of 747 cc on bore and stroke measurements of 83 mm x 69 mm.

Also new is the RH265, a single-cylinder OHV engine targeting consumer and rental in applications such as pressure washers, log splitters, tillers, edgers and lawn vacs. Rated 6.5 hp with a peak torque of 9.7 lb. ft., displacement is 196 cc engine on a bore x stroke of 68 x 54 mm.

Kohler also said it will begin production in the fourth quarter on its KD440 air-cooled single-cylinder diesel targeting plate compactor applications. A redesigned version of the KD420 engine, the engine incorporates a new air filter with integrated cyclonic separator, foam wrap prefilter and restriction indicator. Improved fuel tank mounts are designed for high-vibration applications and improved fuel tank filters help reduce entry of impurities, Kohler said.
