Cat Closing Mining Facility

Posted on October 29, 2013

In another casualty of the slumping mining equipment markets, Caterpillar said it will to close its Kilgore, Texas manufacturing operations by year-end. The Kilgore facility makes dippers and ballast boxes used in mining shovels. The production of ballast-boxes will shift to Caterpillar's plant in South Milwaukee, Wis., while dippers will be moved to a plant in Wamego, Kan.

Caterpillar acquired the Kilgore plant as part of its 2011 purchase of Bucyrus International.
