New Yanmar MiniMax Diesel

Continuing the development of its MINIMAX small engine line, Yanmar Industrial Engines said that the 3TNM72 diesel is now available. Yanmar debuted the MINIMAX line earlier this year with the 3TNM68 diesel, a 0.784 L unit available in industrial ratings of 16.8 to 18.9 hp. With the unveiling of the 0.903 L 3TNM72, the line now reaches a top end of 23.6 hp.

Both engines target a range of compact applications such as utility vehicles, commercial lawn and garden equipment, generator sets, light towers and agricultural machinery. The engines comply with EPA Tier 4 off-road engine emissions standards, Yanmar said.

At their introduction, Yanmar initially had indicated that the 3TNM72 diesel would likely not be seen in North America until 2009 and Jeff Williams, sales and marketing manager for Yanmar’s Industrial Engine Division, indicated that 2009 was “still correct regarding mass production of all models.”

But he added, “We have been able to move our development schedule up some and have been delivering a limited number of samples in the third quarter of this year. The first units are going into the lawn and garden segment. We will be shipping a limited number of gen-drive models out in the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of ’09 for generator and light tower applications.”

The 3TNM72 engine has a bore and stroke of 72 x 74 mm. It will be available in industrial ratings from 19.7 to 23.6 hp, with standby gen-set ratings up to 23.5 hp and prime power ratings to 21.3 hp.
