Kohler Enters Portable Gen-Set Market
Kohler has announced the development of a new line of portable generators targeting building contractors and other construction professionals. Two models in its new range were unveiled at the Greenbuild sustainable design and construction conference in Philadelphia, and the complete line, ranging from a 2.0 kW inverter to a 12.3 kW gasoline-driven generator set, will be available in January and formally unveiled at the World of Concrete show in Las Vegas.
The new portable generators are designed to provide strong fuel efficiency, while offering clean power output safe for even the most sophisticated electronics, the company said. The range will also include trash pumps and water pumps in varying sizes and flow rates, Kohler said.
At Greenbuild, Kohler showed two models in the new family. The Pro2.0iS inverter is a lightweight, 2 kW unit that incorporates an intelligent sensor designed to monitor power demand and vary engine speed for improved efficiency.
On the high end, the Kohler Pro12.3EFI 12.3 kW gasoline gen-set is powered by the Command Pro EFI engine that incorporates closed-loop electronic fuel injection. As a result, Kohler said users can expect to see up to a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and exhaust gas emissions compared to carbureted engines under comparable loads and duty cycles.
The Pro12.3EFI also incorporates Kohler’s patented Accu-Fill angled side-fill design, which is engineered to minimize spillage during refueling. It also includes an on-unit maintenance reminder to indicate when oil and air-filter changes are needed and some models offer recoil and electric start options.
