Scag Makes A Giant Move

Posted on November 7, 2012

Scag Power Equipment and its parent company Metalcraft of Mayville announced that they have acquired the assets of Giant-Vac, a manufacturer of leaf and debris management solutions for the outdoor power and lawn & garden industries, from InSyte Solutions, Inc., a Lawrenceburg, Tenn., contract manufacturer. No financial details were provided for the deal, which was completed Nov. 5.

"This acquisition joins two great names and traditions in the power equipment industry," said John Crowson, president of Scag Power Equipment. "Giant-Vac has led in innovation in debris handling equipment since 1966 and Scag has been widely recognized as a leader in commercial mowers for more than 30 years. This combination will greatly expand our offering of high quality, high value products."

Established as a brand in 1966, Giant-Vac manufactures a range of blowers, blower/chippers, commercial mowers, vacuums and truck loaders. Giant-Vac was purchased by Simplicity Manufacturing in 2000 and became part of the Briggs & Stratton Power Products Group following Briggs & Stratton's 2004 acquisition of Simplicity. Briggs & Stratton sold Giant-Vac to Insyte Solutions in the spring of 2010.

Scag Power Equipment, a division of Metalcraft of Mayville, is an independent manufacturer of commercial mowing equipment. Metalcraft of Mayvill, manufactures products in two facilities totaling more than 680,000 sq. ft., in Mayville and West Bend, Wis.
