Industrial Battery Chargers

Ametek Prestolite Power has developed a redesigned line of high-frequency industrial battery chargers. The Eclipse II Series chargers use advanced IGBT high-frequency power conversion circuitry to provide energy-efficient charging in a compact package, the company said.

The Eclipse II charger has an efficiency of 93%, converting ac power to dc with minimal impact to the utility grid, the company said. A .95 power factor is intended to minimize ac amp draw and thereby reduce installation costs while a compact design requires no more space than existing industrial chargers, Prestolite Power noted.

Both the Eclipse II conventional charger and Eclipse II Plus for opportunity and fast charging are designed to recharge a fully drained lead-acid battery in eight hours or less. The Eclipse II Plus opportunity charging function sustains the battery between 30% and 80% state of charge via short, opportunistic charges and is able to fully charge a battery in six hours or less, the company noted.

The EC2000 control includes four bright LEDs that provide charge status at a glance and a sealed membrane touch pad for simple customer interface. Programmable start modes are available that allow batteries to be charged during off-peak hours for additional cost-savings or to block out time periods to reduce peak demand. It also allows for user controlled battery cool down for increased control of battery rotation, resulting in increased battery efficiency and longer life, the company said.
