Komatsu Zenoah Co., a subsidiary of Komatsu Ltd., said it will build a new factory to assemble mini-excavators in China next year in response to rising local demand, according to Japan’s Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper. The report said Komatsu will spend about 300 million yen to build the facility in Shandong Province in eastern China.

The plant will initially produce 109 units 3.5- and 5-ton models monthly, with plans to eventually increase capacity to 330 units monthly. The company currently produces 60 mini-excavators a month at its existing Chinese operations. The production facility will be located on 40,000 sq. m, with 12,000 sq. m plant planned.
