Cat Opens Rental Stores, Reman in China

At its morning press conference on the first day of ConExpo Asia, Caterpillar Inc. announced its four local dealers have opened 12 Cat Rental Stores in China and expects to double that number by year’s end. Cat said it’s eventual goal is to have “hundreds” of its rental operations throughout China.

The 12 stores have been opened in eight provinces of China, as well as Shanghai and Hong Kong. Caterpillar Vice President Rod Beeler said that as the Chinese contractor market matures, the same business model that has made construction equipment rental a viable channel in other world markets, would hold equally true for China.

Cat also announced it has opened its 15th remanufacturing facility worldwide, this one in Shanghai. The facility will initially remanufacture Caterpillar products, but would also be used as a basis for other types of reman work throughout China, in line with the expansion of the Caterpillar remanufacturing effort elsewhere in North American and worldwide.
