Posted on June 9, 2014

John Deere Power Systems (JDPS), Waterloo, Iowa has introduced a  line of radiator-cooled, dry-exhaust-manifold PowerTech auxiliary diesel engines that are targeted at marine applications to power deck auxiliaries including pumps, winches, cranes, hydraulics and generators.

JDPS said the new diesel lineup meets U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Marine Tier 3 emissions regulations for U.S. waterways.

The marine Tier 3 PowerTech auxiliary drive engines were developed based on the hardware of the John Deere PowerTech non-road Tier 3/Stage 3a, in-line, 4- and 6- cylinder engine platform. With displacements from 4.5 to 13.5L and power ratings from 99 to 600 hp (78 and 129 kW), the engines offer constant- and variable-speed ratings to meet the variety of application needs.

The PowerTech 4.5L engine is available with constant-speed ratings of 105 and 173 hp (78 and 129 kW) at 1800 rpm. Variable-speed ratings for the lineup include:

  • PowerTech 4.5L: 99 hp/74 kW at 2200 rpm
  • PowerTech 6.8L: 250 hp/187 kW at 2200 rpm
  • PowerTech 9.0L: 375 hp 280 kW at 2200 rpm
  • PowerTech 13.5L: 600 hp/448 kW at 2100 rpm

All John Deere marine power solutions are available through John Deere marine engine distributors and marine dealers. Marine Tier 3 auxiliary drive engines will be available for order in summer 2014, with expected delivery in fall 2014, JDPS said
