Diesel Emissions Fluid Sensor

Posted on June 8, 2011

SSI Technologies Inc. has introduced a diesel emissions fluid (DEF) combination sensor designed to monitor urea level, temperature and concentration in diesel SCR systems.

The combination DEF sensor is designed utilizing ultrasonic technology and is an in-tank design with OBD capability, the company said.

SSI said the new sensor provides a variety of critical measures and capabilities: detection of 10 percent or greater water dilution of DEF; detection of DEF contaminants such as diesel fuel, water, windshield washer fluid, brake fluid, motor oil, gasoline and anti-freeze; high resolution (0.5 mm) DEF level monitoring for OEM operator information; immediate operator notification of any diesel miss-fills in the DEF tank; temperature monitoring (+/- 3 degrees C) for DEF heating management; redundant indication of empty DEF tank; J1939 CAN-Bus technology for system integration; and the sensor is programmable for profiling to regular or irregular/odd shaped DEF tanks.
