UAW Rejects International Truck and Engine Contract

Posted on June 9, 2006

International Truck and Engine Corp. said that the membership of the United Auto Workers union (UAW) has voted down a proposed contract. A tentative contract was reached on June 7, after nearly two months of negotiations between company representatives and union officials from all UAW-represented locations. The tentative agreement was then presented to the union membership for ratification but was rejected by a majority vote.

Negotiations began more than a year in advance of the current contract's expiration. Since no new agreement was reached, the current contract will remain in effect until its expiration in October 2007. No work interruptions are expected as a result of the vote outcome, International said.
