A Greener Heavy-Duty Engine Coolant

Posted on July 16, 2008

Cummins Filtration has released a new heavy-duty engine antifreeze/coolant using non-toxic glycerin in lieu of traditional ethylene glycol (EG) or propylene glycol (PG). Fleetguard ES Compleat Glycerin coolant is a prediluted formulation that the company said meets all anti-freeze, anti-boil, heat transfer and corrosion protection requirements of modern engines and meets all engine manufacturer specifications.

With extended service intervals of 150,000 miles (250,000 km or 4000 hours), ES Compleat Glycerin coolant offers freeze protection to -32 F◦ and offers liner pitting, corrosion, aluminum and solder protection for longer system life, the company said. The coolant is compatible with gaskets, elastomers and other non-metallics in the engine and is suitable for all diesel, gasoline and natural gas engines, Cummins Filtration said.

Glycerin is derived from renewable sources and is the primary byproduct of the biodiesel manufacturing process, the company said. Predilution eliminates the need for mixing concentrated product with water, ensuring the cleanest possible solution enters the cooling system and reducing maintenance time, Cummins Filtration added.
