Medium-Voltage Transfer Switches

Russelectric has developed a new line of medium-voltage circuit breaker-type switches designed to automatically transfer electrical loads between normal and emergency power sources through the controlled opening and closing of circuit breakers. With an operating range of 5 to 15 kV, the medium-voltage circuit breaker automatic transfer switches can be configured for open- or closed-transition transfer, the company said, and all switch functions are controlled by Russelectric’s RPTCS programmable microprocessor-based control system.

Also available from Russelectric are new medium-voltage circuit breaker-type bypass/isolation switches engineered to provide all the functions of an automatic transfer switch along with the ability to bypass power from live source to load in the event the transfer switch becomes disabled. In addition, they are designed to allow isolation and de-energization of the automatic transfer breakers for maintenance, testing and repair, the company said.

The new switches are UL tested, listed, and labeled under UL 1008A, Russelectric said. They are also approved for use in legally required emergency power systems and meet or exceed IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI standards, the company said.
