MSHA Allows Diesel Gen-Sets For Coal Mines

Posted on January 3, 2006

The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has published a final rule in the Federal Register that will allow the use of low- and medium-voltage diesel-powered electrical generators as an alternative means of powering electrical equipment in underground coal mines. The rule eliminates the need for mine operators to file petitions for modification to use these portable generators to power electrical equipment.
