Industry NewsVolvo Trucks Cites MilestonesJanuary 18, 2012 Citing retail sales data compiled by WardsAuto Group, Volvo Trucks said it recorded the North American heavy-duty truck industry’s largest market share gains in 2011, reaching a company record market share of 12.1% of the combined U.S. and Canadian retail market. The company said it also reached record penetration levels for its proprietary engines and I-Shift automated manual transmission. Volvo Trucks said its record year was fueled by a particularly strong performance in the U.S., where according to WardsAuto Group data, its retail market share jumped nearly three points and retails increased 109% from 2010. For the combined U.S. and Canadian market, Volvo’s total retail volume was 23,820 vehicles vs. 12,100 in 2010. Volvo said the percentage of Volvo trucks sold with the company’s proprietary engines hit a record of nearly 80% in 2011 and I-Shift penetration was a record of more than 40%. The Volvo VN, VHD and VAH trucks are assembled in the United States at the New River Valley Plant in Dublin, Va., while Volvo engines for North America are assembled in Hagerstown, Md. |
