Industry NewsSchneider National Goes OnGuardJanuary 12, 2012 Schneider National, one of the nation’s largest truckload, logistics and intermodal carriers, will make Meritor WABCO’s OnGuard Collision Safety System standard equipment for all new Class 8 commercial vehicles within its fleet, Meritor WABCO announced. That will account for more than 2500 systems in 2012, the company said. OnGuard is an always-on collision mitigation system designed to provide active braking regardless of if the cruise control is engaged. Meritor WABCO said its SmartTrac Stability Control System is also standard equipment on Schneider-owned vehicles. The OnGuard system incorporates a forward-looking radar sensor that monitors the distance, speed and deceleration of a vehicle ahead and if necessary, alerts the driver to take appropriate action through an in-cab display. If the driver doesn’t immediately decelerate the vehicle in response to a potentially serious rear end situation, the Collision Mitigation System (CMS) integrated within OnGuard automatically de-throttles the engine and provides up to a 50% full service brake application to help the driver avoid or reduce the severity of a rear end collision. Meritor WABCO is a joint venture of Meritor and WABCO Automotive Control Systems that supplies complete braking systems including braking systems and controls, suspension and control systems and active safety systems for commercial vehicles in North America. |
