Industry NewsPerkins Adds 1106 Diesel to WuxiOctober 19, 2011 The expanding footprint of the Perkins-Caterpillar campus in Wuxi, China has grown again with the announcement that Perkins will begin production of a mechanical Tier 2 model of its 1106C diesel in the second quarter of 2012. The announcement was made at a press event at the biennial BICES construction equipment show in Beijing. The Chinese built 7.1 liter 1106C engine will be targeted at construction equipment and material handling applications in China. Perkins said production of the 1106 diesels could reach as high as 130,000 engines annually, a number when combined with Perkins Wuxi-built model 1104 diesel could reach as high as 160,000 engines a year, or 30% of the global production of the 1106 family. Perkins also showed the Tier 4 final version of its model 400F diesel at BICES, saying it was targeting that engine at Asian hat exported to the U.S. or E.U. markets. Perkins first showed the 400F at ConExpo in the U.S. in March, thus BICES was the second showing of the engine and the first in Asia. The F version of the 400 series will not be built in China. The Wuxi campus now includes a Perkins engine production facility for the 400D series diesels, a separate plant for the 1104C and 1106 series, both A and C versions, as well as a Caterpillar research and development center adjacent to the two engine facilities. |
