Volvo Penta’s New 350 Hp Gas Engine Sterndrives
Volvo Penta of the Americas announced the addition of a new 350 hp V8 gasoline engine to its growing line of new-generation marine sterndrives. Based on the existing V8-380 engine block, the new V8-350 is more than 200 lb. lighter than competitive engines in its class, the company said.
The new engine incorporates Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology, which optimizes torque at low speeds while maximizing performance at high speeds, Volvo said. The result, the company said, is faster acceleration, increased top speed and smoother response in the mid-rpm range. In addition, Volvo Penta said the new engines are also at least 20% more fuel efficient than earlier model sterndrives and exceed U.S. EPA emission requirements by a wide margin.
“Volvo Penta continues to be a leader with the widest range of marine propulsion from single 13 hp to 4800 hp quad installations,” said Ron Huibers, president of Volvo Penta of the Americas. “The investments we continue to make in the gas range, including our standard five-year factory warranty coverage, are bringing new, exciting performance to the sterndrive segment.”
