Nissan To Supply Light Trucks To Volvo

Posted on February 17, 2006

Nissan Motor Co., Japan's second-biggest automaker, said it will supply light-duty trucks to Renault Trucks SAS, a unit of Sweden's Volvo AB beginning in the first half of 2007. The trucks, which will share a platform with the next-generation Nissan Cabstar and Atlas models, will be built at Nissan's truck plant in Avila, Spain, Nissan said in a statement.

Renault Trucks will distribute the trucks under its own brand, to complement the Master and Mascott models. The light commercial vehicle (LCV) business is one of four areas that Nissan has identified as having big growth potential under its current three-year corporate plan. By the year ending in March 2008, Nissan aims to double the segment's volume by 40% to 434,000 units globally.
