Kohler Co.'s Global Power Group announced it has acquired SDMO Industries, SAS and two other companies, from France’s Meunier Group. Along with SDMO, Kohler acquired Béalas Energie Services, SA, reportedly the largest generator set maintenance company in France and SOREEL, SAS, a company that produces electrical equipment for distribution and control panels. Financial terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed.
"Kohler Power Systems, which is Kohler's generator division, and SDMO together create the third largest generator manufacturing business in the world," said Kohler Global Power Group President Dick Fotsch. "This is a merger of equals, bringing together two premium companies with expert engineering, excellent products and similar corporate cultures, given that they both are privately-held companies, well-managed and profitable."
Owned by the Meunier family and headquartered in Brest, France, the Meunier Group had consisted of a mechanical equipment manufacturing business, a ship repair business and the three energy equipment companies purchased by Kohler.
SDMO, BES and SOREEL together employ more than 1100 people in France and at subsidiaries around the world. SDMO manufactures industrial generator sets up to 2.8 MW for production and standby use, along with gasoline- and diesel-powered portable gen-sets for consumer applications.
