Planetary Power Introduces Hybrid Diesel Generator

Posted on March 6, 2014

Planetary Power introduced its HyGen hybrid generator to the construction equipment market at CONEXPO-CON/AGG. It combines diesel generator technology with integrated energy storage for off-grid power. HyGen is a serial hybrid generator with peak output power of 60 kW. The engine runs only when the batteries are depleted or the load demand is high. The engine starts automatically when the batteries are depleted. Peak loads are met by drawing energy from the battery bank and/or the engine, if needed, and it is all computer-controlled without user input.

According to the company, HyGen can pay for itself in less than a year by consuming up to 60% less fuel than a conventional generator. It can also be networked to meet power needs in remote locations, such as mining camps and military operations.
