New Switches From Carling
Carling Technologies, the Plainville, Conn., designer and manufacturer of electrical components, is introducing two new switches at ConExpo-ConAgg 2014.
The ST-Series incorporates an innovative toggle seal composed of a dynamic silicone material that bonds to the metal toggle, pin and bushing, to provide strong sealing and protection against the environment, vibration and shock, the company said. Typical applications would include military equipment, armored vehicles, off-highway vehicles and any application that requires stringent sealing capabilities, the company said.
The ST-Series also uses up to three terminal seals per pole and an optional O-ring is designed to assure additional under panel sealing protection. All silicone seals on the ST-Series comply with A-A-59588 for silicone rubber performance specifications and, together, these features meet the international IEC 60529 standard for sealing performance to an IP68 level, the company said.
Carling’s new V-Series Contura Rotary Switch is available in maintained and momentary circuit options and incorporates a sturdy knob construction, up to three separate LEDs, and fits in an industry standard panel opening.
Internally, the V-Series Contura Rotary uses a patent-pending mechanism that translates rotary to linear motion. This is designed to allow for common switch functionality and terminal connections with the V-Series rocker version and requires no harness change, the company said. A secondary CAM, which helps drive the mechanism, provides definitive detent positions and prevents the switch from stopping between positions, while improving tactile feel, Carling said.
The V-Series Rotary also includes a PC board that supports the LED and surface mount resistors and IP67 sealing protection above panel by utilizing LED and actuator stem seals. Typical applications include on- and off-highway equipment, marine, speed control, test and measurement and instrumentation.
