Cat To Close French Paving Plant?

Posted on April 21, 2014

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking to close a paving products plant in France, as part of a continuing a global cost-reduction drive, the Wall Street Journal and others are reporting.  The plant in questions is Cat’s facility in Rantigny, France, about 40 miles north of Paris, which manufactures road paving equipment, including compactors, planers and pavers. It employs 244 people.

Caterpillar’s Matériels Routiers unit is seeking talks with the works council at the plant to discuss the plan. The Caterpillar spokeswoman declined to say whether the production would be moved to another plant.

Rantigny would join other Caterpillar plants that were recently closed in Pulaski, Va.; Beckley, W.Va.; Kilgore, Tex.; Summerville, SC, and Owatonna, Minn., Toronto and Sudbury, Canada.
