Astec Shakes Up Top Management, Forms New Group

Astec Inc. has announced several internal promotions, including a new president and chief operating officer, while creating a new operating group.

Co-founder Norm Smith will formally assume CEO Don Brock's role as Astec's senior operating executive, with an expanded pool of five group vice presidents serving as the internal candidates to succeed the founding generation of management, the company said. Brock will remain as chairman & CEO. Smith has been a group vice president for Astec's Asphalt Group since 1998 and Smith is one of Astec's founders.

A new operating group, the Energy Group, has been formed to sharpen Astec’s focus on energy management opportunities, the company said.. Astec's combined Heatec and CEI Enterprises manufacture heating systems for asphalt production and storage, and have expanded its penetration of selected industrial process.

Two new group vice presidents named. Richard Dorris has been Heatec's senior leader since 2004, and assumes leadership of the new Energy Group. Ben Brock has been the senior leader for the core Astec, Inc. asphalt plant operations since 2006 and will succeed Smith as group VP for the Asphalt Group, adding responsibility for Astec Australia).

Astec said it was now has five group VPs: Ben Brock-Asphalt; Tom Campbell- Mobile Asphalt Paving & Underground; Dorris-Energy; Rick Patek-Aggregate & Mining; and Joe Vig-AggReCon
